Torrance Refinery Air Quality Monitoring Project
Clients
South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD)
The Torrance Air Quality Monitoring and Notification Project provides residents of Torrance, California, with near-real-time air quality information about pollutant concentrations in and around the communities near the Torrance Refinery. The project monitors local air quality using an air monitoring system installed along the northern fenceline of the refinery, as well as four community-based air quality monitoring stations located around the city.

These monitoring stations send the collected data to the project website, TorranceAir.org, which displays the air quality information using easy-to-understand graphics and map displays. Members of the public can sign up on the website to receive email notifications when pollution levels exceed levels of concern.

As part of this project, Sonoma Technology installed the air quality monitoring systems, designed and developed the TorranceAir.org website, and established quality controls on the real-time data using our Insight Data Management System. Our team continues to work with the SCAQMD to keep the website available to the public, providing historical data and educational resources to the Torrance community.
