To better measure pollutant concentrations around the PBF Energy Refinery in Torrance, California, SCAQMD selected STI to develop and implement a real-time air monitoring network that includes fenceline monitoring and community monitoring. The network will collect air quality data from locations along the borders of the refinery and in nearby communities. The network and monitoring plan is being developed with input from SCAQMD staff, stakeholders, and local residents.
As part of this project, STI will develop a data management system to provide real-time data processing, quality control, and display. Data collected by the network of monitors will be fed into an STI-developed website that will provide Torrance residents with real-time air quality information. STI will also work with SCAQMD to engage and educate the Torrance community about air quality and real-time monitoring data.
